We are seeking input from local residents and/or property owners that have experienced flooding at their property within the Riverstone catchment. Your local knowledge and personal experience of living in the catchment is invaluable when identifying flood 'trouble spots'. This will ensure that the updated flood modelling reflects your experiences.

Under the NSW Government's Flood Prone Land Policy as outlined in the 2023 NSW Flood Risk Management Manual, Council has a duty of care to manage lands subject to flooding within its Local Government Area.

Following the Council's adoption of the Eastern Creek flood study in 2023 and the Blacktown local overland flow flood study in 2024, Council has since secured grant funding from the NSW government to undertake a comprehensive Floodplain risk management study and plan for Riverstone.

To prepare the study, Council has engaged Stantec, an independent consultant specialising in flood investigations. This study will help us plan for, predict and manage the risk of flooding across the catchment by looking at site-specific mitigation options tailored to Riverstone's unique conditions.

The Riverstone floodplain risk management study and plan is essential to ensuring Council's floodplain management approach aligns with future land use planning, particularly in and around the Riverstone Town Centre. While there is some overlap in the study areas, the Riverstone Town Centre rezoning proposal is limited in how much it can mitigate and manage flooding for the existing communities, as this is not its primary focus.

This study does not duplicate previous investigations. Instead, it builds on earlier work to address gaps in flood risk management and to explore site-specific mitigation measures. This coordinated approach will ensure flood risks across Riverstone are clearly understood and effectively managed for the benefit of the community.
