Eastern Creek Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan
We are undertaking a Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan to explore ways to reduce flood risks within the Eastern Creek catchment area.
We will look at strategies like channel improvements, drainage upgrades, enhanced flood emergency warning and planning systems.
We are asking you to share your thoughts on how we can best manage these risks and what solutions you think would work for our community.
We cannot guarantee that we will be able to address every flooding issue, but we would like to understand what they are.
Why we are preparing this Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan
Under the NSW Government's Flood Prone Land Policy as outlined in the NSW Government's Flood Risk Management Manual, Council has a duty of care to manage lands subject to flooding within its Local Government Area.
Following the Council's adoption of the Eastern Creek Flood Study in September 2023, Council has since secured grant funding from the NSW Government to undertake a comprehensive Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan for Eastern Creek.
This study will update Council's existing flood information and help us plan for, predict and manage the risk of flooding across the catchment.
We are working with our consultant, Catchment Simulations Solutions to prepare the study and plan.
How you can get involved
Complete our survey, which should take about 10 minutes. All responses must be received before 5pm, 15 December 2024.
We are seeking your input to help us develop floodplain risk management measures that are practical, comprehensive and effective for local flooding from Eastern Creek and its tributaries.
You may have valuable insight into what is causing flooding problems or how they may be reduced or eliminated.
By completing this survey, you will help us identify and evaluate the best options for inclusion in the Eastern Creek Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan.
You can either:
- complete the questionnaire online here
- print out the questionnaire, scan it and email, to david.tetley@csse.com.au
- print out the questionnaire and post it to Catchment Simulation Solutions, Suite 1, Level 10/70 Phillip Street, Sydney NSW 2000.
Next steps
We will use your feedback to develop a list of potential flood risk management measures for inclusion in our Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan report for Eastern Creek.
Once the draft study is prepared, we will publicly exhibit it, giving you an opportunity to review the flood management options investigated. Any comments and feedback received will be reviewed and addressed as part of the final report.
